TAY stands for Transition Age Youth. It refers to young adults ages 16-25 who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, they face a number of challenges, including lack of access to housing, employment, and healthcare. They are also more likely to experience mental health and substance abuse problems.
In 2020, there was a 19% increase in homelessness among Transition Age Youth (TAY) Households and Unaccompanied Minors, which includes both individuals aged 18-24 and members of families headed by persons aged 18-24.A TAY Center plays a vital role in supporting homeless youth, providing a safe space for youth to go during the day and evening, and they offer a variety of services that can help youth get back on their feet. TAY Programs also help to reduce youth homelessness in our communities.
Penny Lane Centers' TAY programs in Los Angeles are dedicated to eradicate youth homelessness by guiding youth towards their goals of safety, stability, success, and independence. We accomplish this by using a heart-centered approach to inspire growth and hope.
On site offerings in youth drop in centers include laundry, showers, computers with internet access, printing, hot meals, hygiene kits, clothing and weekly bus passes.
