Relative Home Assessment Services (RHAS)

Helping support relative caregivers navigate the child welfare system.

Preparation and support for relative caregivers.

The Relative Home Assessment Services (RHAS) program supports relative caregivers through the process of getting their homes approved by the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The program assists families with preparing their homes to meet the required home safety standards and offers relative families the required 12 hours of pre-approval training including CPR/First Aid. The RHAS program also supports families during their post-approval process which includes 8 hours of training during the family’s initial year of approval plus bi-annual home inspections. These are families that are taking in children who are relatives of theirs as they are unable for whatever reason to remain with their parents.
