TAY stands for Transition Age Youth. It refers to young adults ages 16-25 who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, they face a number of challenges, including lack of access to housing, employment, and healthcare. They are also more likely to experience mental health and substance abuse problems.
In 2020, there was a 19% increase in homelessness among Transition Age Youth (TAY) Households and Unaccompanied Minors, which includes both individuals aged 18-24 and members of families headed by persons aged 18-24.A TAY Center plays a vital role in supporting homeless youth, providing a safe space for youth to go during the day and evening, and they offer a variety of services that can help youth get back on their feet. TAY Programs also help to reduce youth homelessness in our communities.
