On Saturday April 6, 2024, I completed a huge milestone by transforming one of my most painful and difficult life experiences (surviving financial and emotional abuse) into an empowering and aspirational TEDx Talk. Yes, I just gave my first ever TEDx Talk in Borrowdale, Harare, Zimbabwe and it was cathartic. I can’t wait to share the talk link once it goes live on the TEDx platform. I was blessed to be 1 of 20 speakers chosen out of 600 applicants.
It was a blessing to be surrounded by other talented and passionate speakers with varying backgrounds. Following talk day, I had the pleasure of traveling to “Victoria Falls,” one of the 7 Wonders of the World, and Botswana for a safari. My best friend accompanied me on this life changing trip. I look forward to sharing more photos, in the near future, but here is a glimpse of what I was up to on my GRAND JOURNEY April 2-10.

Our Relative Support Services Program (RSS) hosted a heartfelt Resource Family Appreciation Breakfast at IHOP in San Fernando. We extended our gratitude to our valued resource families by treating them to a delicious breakfast, where 80 family meals were generously provided. Alongside our team, caregivers were warmly greeted with breakfast delights and an array of donated items from esteemed partners such as The Good Plus Foundation.
In addition to savoring a complimentary breakfast, caregivers were pleasantly surprised with thoughtful donations, including new pillows for added comfort, adorable Build-a-Bear stuffed bears to bring smiles, and essential Lysol wipes for practical use. The atmosphere buzzed with joy and appreciation as families came together to enjoy a morning of warmth, connection, and acknowledgment.
Our team's commitment to supporting and uplifting resource families was evident throughout the event, creating a meaningful and memorable experience for all involved. It was a beautiful opportunity to express gratitude and celebrate the dedication and love demonstrated by our remarkable caregivers.

This past April was very successful. We had over 5000 people in attendance at the Solid Devonshire Pancake Breakfast. Councilman John Lee thanked all his supporters. At our booth today, we were able to hand out the Penny Lane pamphlets for some of the upcoming events . The public was very interested in Garden Party and Abbey Road. I did run into some families that used to be at Penny Lane Centers. I gave them my business card to get in contact with us. It was nice to see so many happy families, and lots of kids.

This past month our intern, Susana Gonzalez, wrote an op-ed and it was published by La Opinion! This piece is regarding street food vendors and it is in Spanish- a must read, check it out!
I had the privilege to attend the East LA College (ELAC) Mental Health and Career Fair on April 25th, 2024. Penny Lane was invited by Dr. Ramirez, the Interim Dean, to provide information related to our services and to offer support and information to students interested in the mental health field. It was my honor to represent Penny Lane and offer the ELAC students hope and motivation to pursue their career aspirations in the mental health field. Such a great event and provided much needed information for some of Penny Lane's students.
